Dodge . How to Replace the Fuel Filter in a 2001 BMW 330xiThe BMW 330xi is an all-wheel-drive car that was part of the E46 generation of 3 Series. The E46 is widely considered one of the best 3 Series in the model's history. To ensure that the fuel system remains in good condition and continues to provide a reliable supply of fuel to the engine, the fuel filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles. Like all E46 3 Series, the 330xi's fuel filter is located under the driver's side of the car and is easy to replace. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Floor jack and jack stand or ramps Socket set and ratchet Screwdriver Rags 2 locking pliers Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal. This is the black cable. Lift the driver's side of the car with a floor jack and lower it onto a jack stand. You can also drive the car onto ramps to access the fuel filter. 2 Locate the metal shield that is under the car, on the driver's side and in front of the gas tank. Remove the bolts that hold the shield on with a socket and a ratchet. Remove the shield and set it aside. 3 Place a pair of locking pliers on the fuel lines on each side of the fuel filter so the fuel line is squeezed together, which will prevent the fuel from spilling out when the lines are removed from the filter. 4 Remove the filter from its bracket. The bracket has a bolt that connects the bracket to the filter. Use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps that hold the fuel lines to the filter. Pull the fuel lines off of the filter. Remove the filter and discard it. 5 Install the new filter in the same orientation as the old one. Ensure that the arrow on the filter is facing towards the front of the BMW. Tighten the bolt that holds the bracket on, then tighten the hose clamps. Remove the locking pliers. 6 Reinstall the shield. Lower the vehicle back to the ground. Reconnect the battery. Turn the car ignition on and off a couple of times without starting the engine, then turn the key to the "On" position and start the engine.

How to Replace the Fuel Filter From a BMW 528iThe BMW 528i was made from 1997 to 2000 and was another popular model in the 5 Series line-up, combining attractive styling, high quality and strong performance. Like all BMWs, the fuel filter on the 528i should be changed every 30,000 miles or so, though this will vary depending on the types of conditions in which the car is driven. Replacing the filter is an easy job on the 528i. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Floor jack Jack stands Adjustable wrench Rags Rubber gloves 2 locking pliers Eye protection Step by Step : 1 Park the BMW in an area that has proper ventilation. When changing the filter, some fuel will spill out. Remove the negative terminal on the battery, which is the black cable. 2 Raise the driver's side of the car with a floor jack and support it securely on a jack stand. You may also drive the car up onto a pair of ramps to allow enough room to access the filter. 3 Remove the trim piece that protects the fuel filter and the fuel lines. The piece is held on with bolts. Set the trim aside. The fuel filter and the fuel lines will be visible just in front of the gas tank. 4 Clamp the fuel lines on either side of the filter with locking pliers so that when the lines are disconnected, the fuel does not pour out. Use a rag between the pliers and the fuel line so the line does not get damaged. 5 Loosen the hose clamps that fasten the fuel lines to the filter with a screwdriver. Slowly and carefully pull the lines off the filter. Wipe up any fuel that spills out with a rag. Remove the filter from the bracket that holds it in place and discard it. 6 Install the new filter by sliding the fuel lines onto the filter. Tighten the hose clamps. Install the filter in the bracket. Remove the locking pliers and reinstall the trim that protects the filter. 7 Lower the car back to the ground. Reinstall the negative terminal on the battery.
